The head of the Russian Ministry of Defense Sergei Shoigu attended the farewell ceremony for Colonel General Valery Vostrotin, who led the 9th company during the war in Afghanistan. This was reported by the Zvezda TV channel.

The ceremony took place at the Central House of the Russian Army in Moscow.

Shoigu expressed condolences to Vostrotin’s family and noted the patriotism and professionalism shown by the officer during his service.

Vostrotin died on February 13, two days before the 35th anniversary of the withdrawal of Soviet troops from Afghanistan. For excellent performance of combat missions in Afghanistan in 1989, Vostrotin was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union. For the past two years, the general has been seriously ill.
