The position of the Ministry of Digital Development, Telecommunications and Mass Media of Russia regarding the blocking of YouTube video hosting has not changed, said Maksut Shadayev, head of the department. The Ministry of Digital Development has repeatedly spoken about the lack of plans to close the site.
“The position of the Ministry of Digital Development has not changed in this regard,” said Shadayev (quoted by RIA Novosti).
In May last year, within the framework of the federal educational marathon of the Knowledge society, the Minister spokethat the Russian authorities have no plans to shut down YouTube. According to him, when blocking is introduced, the department should understand that Russian users will not be affected. About the fact that in Russia there are still no plans to block YouTube, Shadayev declared even last autumn.
Former member of the Presidential Human Rights Council (HRC) Kirill Kabanov declaredthat shutting down YouTube in Russia is possible because such resources disseminate hostile information.
Prior to this, Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Information Policy, Information Technology and Communications Yevgeny Popov said that the issue of blocking YouTube has not yet been discussed in the State Duma. He believes that the Russian authorities should act on “individual products” on YouTube that are malicious, but this should not be achieved by blocking the entire portal.
