Scientists have named a way to improve brain function with lack of sleep

A short workout of 20 minutes can help mitigate the negative effects of sleep deprivation on the brain. This is stated in a study published in Physiology & Behavior.
Although adults are recommended to sleep between seven and nine hours a night, more than 40% of the world’s population suffers from sleep deprivation. The consequences of chronic sleep deficiency include cardiovascular disease, obesity, neurodegenerative disorders and depression.
24 people participated in the study. They slept for five hours over three nights or abstained for 24 hours, then were exposed to stress in oxygen-deprived conditions similar to those experienced by mountaineers and skiers.
As a result, scientists observed an improvement in cognitive function after a 20-minute workout on an exercise bike. It is noted that more intense physical activity could, on the contrary, aggravate stress and reduce mental abilities.
Also interesting is that reducing sleep time to five hours a night affected participants’ brain function differently, which may indicate varying degrees of resilience among people to sleep deprivation.
