Archaeologists have found in Mongolia the oldest image of the phallus in Eurasia
The press service of the Institute of Archeology and Ethnography of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences reported on Wednesday that an international group of archaeologists, which included specialists from the Institute of Archeology of the Mongolian Academy of Sciences and the University of California at Davis, during excavations in Northern Mongolia discovered a graphite artifact of the age 42 thousand years, which is the oldest three-dimensional image of the phallus.
According to experts, the find is the only phallic pendant of the Paleolithic period in the world. The researchers are convinced that the artifact they found suggests that both male and female gender characteristics played a significant role in the symbolism of humans at the stage of Homo Sapiens settling in Asia.
It is specified that the artifact is made of graphite, the nearest deposit of which is located 100 kilometers from the Tolbor-21 site. Scientists noted that in the Tolborsky region, transportation of exotic raw materials or products from it over distances of up to 550 kilometers is known at the same time by the bearers of the same traditions of the initial Upper Paleolithic.
