FTC wins injunction against Microsoft and Activision Blizzard deal – Kommersant

The San Francisco District Court has issued a temporary injunction against the completion of the Microsoft and Activision merger, as sought by the US Federal Trade Commission (FTC), reports Reuters. Microsoft agreed to buy Activision Blizzard for $68.7 billion in January 2022. If completed, it would be one of the largest deals in the video game market and the largest acquisition in Microsoft history.
However, the merger has already been opposed FTC and the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) Great Britain. At the same time, the European Commission approved deal after Microsoft promised to enter into licensing agreements for Activision games with other gaming services.
FTC filed a request for an injunction against the merger of Microsoft and Activision on Monday, June 12, thus seeking to prevent the companies from meeting the July 18 deadline to close the deal. The parties hoped to complete the deal by June 16. But now companies will have to wait until at least June 22-23 for a court hearing over a possible extension of the injunction.
