They claim that using their icicle cutter makes the process safer
An original way to combat icicles was developed by scientists from the Kazan National Research Technical University. A.N. Tupolev. To combat dangerous ice, they proposed using an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV).
The development consists of three main components – the drone itself, the control panel and the roulette connected to the drone. It is needed to regulate the flight altitude of the icicle shooter. To shoot down icicles, it is proposed to use a quadcopter with motors for each of its four propellers and a separate motor for the shooting device. Rods with screws are attached to the quadcopter frame on four sides, and on its upper part there is a knocking device motor, which is located under the frame and connected to the motor by an axis. It consists of two oppositely directed telescopic arms with cone-shaped strikers at the ends. There are springs in the cavities of the levers. A cord connected to a tape measure is attached to the axle.
The device starts and takes off using the control panel, thanks to the tape measure it takes the required height, and thanks to the screws it takes the desired position in the horizontal plane. Then, again using the remote control, the knocking device is turned on, the levers unwind and, thanks to centrifugal force, open. Such a screw effectively knocks down icicles, and after completion of the work it easily descends to the ground.
It only takes one person to do this kind of work.
