Sber announced the names of three new Science Prize laureates

Each winner will receive 20 million rubles

The names of the winners of the second annual Sber Scientific Prize with a total prize fund of 60 million rubles have become known. The award supports scientists working in Russia who are engaged in active research activities and open up new prospects for the development of science and technology.

The ceremony was attended by: Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Dmitry Chernyshenko; Russian Health Minister Mikhail Murashko; President, Chairman of the Board of Sberbank German Gref and Rector of the Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Alexander Kuleshov.

In the Life Sciences category, the winner was Alexey Polilov, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Doctor of Biological Sciences, Head of the Department of Entomology, Faculty of Biology, Moscow State University. The prize was awarded for fundamental research in the field of animal miniaturization and the introduction of model objects into science that open up new perspectives in neurobiology, microrobotics and artificial intelligence.

In the category “Physical World” – Valentin Ananikov, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Doctor of Chemical Sciences, Head of the Laboratory of Metal Complex and Nanosized Catalysts at the Institute of Organic Chemistry named after. The prize was awarded for the discovery of the phenomenon of dynamic catalysis and research into the mechanisms of chemical reactions, allowing the creation of universal catalytic systems, accelerating the development and launch of a new generation of effective and environmentally friendly chemical technologies.

In the “Digital Universe” nomination – Evgeny Tyrtyshnikov, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Director of the Institute of Computational Mathematics named after. G. I. Marchuk RAS. The prize was awarded for the creation of new matrix and tensor modeling and data compression methods for solving ultra-large, high-dimensional problems, which opens up broad opportunities for accelerating calculations in the natural sciences, machine learning and other fields.

“Today, any state, any modern organization is based on three components. The first is the high-quality implementation of existing technologies and what has been achieved. The second is the continuous improvement of technologies, bringing them to the absolute level. And the third is the vision of the future by researchers who are constantly reinventing what the basis of any business model or the existence of the state as such is based on today. And this third component is the most interesting and important. There is no future without her. If there is no science, then there can be no modern education. Only the combination of science and education provides vision and prepares specialists of the future. And any state, any company can say that they have a future only if they have a powerful intellectual component that is trying to look beyond the horizon.

We will try to make our award more and more prestigious every year. And first of all for young people. Because the future of science lies with those guys who are still studying at universities today, or have graduated from them and are just starting to engage in research,” he noted.

92 scientists were nominated to participate in the second season of the annual Sber Science Prize. They were nominated for the prize by educational and research organizations, technology companies and development institutions. All applications underwent an independent examination, on the basis of which scientific councils under the leadership of academicians of the Russian Academy of Sciences formed lists of finalists in each nomination. The final decision on this year’s laureates was made by the award committee. The co-chairs of the award committee are President, Chairman of the Board of Sberbank German Gref and Rector of the Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Alexander Kuleshov.
