The Association of Tour Operators of Russia (ATOR) is aware of two cases of confiscation of foreign passports of Russians due to errors found. Told about this RBC Executive Director of ATOR Maya Lomidze.
“The first case is a typo in the name, the second case is a missing letter in the name of the city. We are monitoring the situation, since nothing like this has happened before,” Ms. Lomidze clarified. She did not specify when these incidents occurred.
ATOR Vice President Artur Muradyan explained BFM, that previously several mistakes were made in the international passport, but now due to typos it may be invalidated. As Mr. Muradyan clarified, “some liberties” are allowed with the transcription of first and last names in Latin letters, since different templates were used at different times.
From December 11 in Russia have changed border crossing rules. In particular, the list of reasons for invalidating a foreign passport has been expanded. Among the reasons are the deprivation of a person of Russian citizenship or a change of full name. Also, foreign passports will be confiscated from citizens called up for military service.
