The Federal Biomedical Agency (FMBA) plans that vaccines it develops against meningococcal and pneumococcal infections will be available from 2025. Now vaccines against these infections are imported into the Russian Federation in the form of imported substances, they only go through the packaging stage.
“Vaccines will be available after 2025. At the St. Petersburg Institute of Vaccines and Serums, large-scale production will be launched by this time. This will allow us to be independent of foreign supplies and have full-cycle production of conjugate vaccines in the Russian Federation,” said the FMBA TASS. It is alleged that the institute is ready to provide the entire population with “inexpensive original vaccines.”
The development of a 16-valent conjugate vaccine for the prevention of pneumococcal infection has been underway since 2020. It will include three more serotypes than the imported 13-valent vaccine. Now the drug is at the stage of preclinical studies. A 5-valent meningococcal vaccine has been under development since 2021.
