Russian tourists were trapped in a flood zone in India

Three Russian tourists were trapped in the northeastern state of Sikkim in India. This was reported at the Russian Consulate General in Calcutta.

The diplomatic department added that none of the Russians suffered from the rampant disaster. Consulate General employees also noted that they are in contact with local authorities. As soon as weather conditions improve, travelers from Russia will be evacuated.

The day before, information appeared that Russian tourists were blocked in the Indian mountain village of Kasol. Travelers were also left without communications in this locality. The reason for the difficulties that the Russians found themselves in was the flood. It was reported that a total of 15 people were stuck in the mountainous area due to the raging disaster, but the data was later clarified.

According to Indian authorities, the flooding was caused by heavy rains on Wednesday, October 4, in the area of ​​the glacial lake Lhonak, located in the Himalayas in northeast Sikkim. The increased flow of water also triggered the release of water from the Teesta hydroelectric power station located on the river. Its level increased by 4-6 meters. It is noted that flows of dirty water demolished army positions along the river valley, which is why, according to the press service of the Eastern Command of the Indian Armed Forces, at least 23 military personnel are currently listed as missing in the state of Sikkim.
