Mash: a student from Komsomolsk-on-Amur fell into a coma due to meningoencephalitis

The Mash Telegram channel reports that in Komsomolsk-on-Amur a student fell into a coma due to a rare illness. It is noted that his mother asks to transport her son to Khabarovsk, but she is refused.

According to the publication, the 18-year-old student became ill at the end of January – he had a high fever and was vomiting. At the same time, the young man attributed what happened to a cold and went to his relatives in Elban. There, as Mash noted, the guy went to bed and fell into a coma. He was subsequently hospitalized in Amursk, where he was diagnosed with meningoencephalitis (inflammation of the membranes and substance of the brain).

The publication indicated that this disease is extremely rare, and there are only two cases per million people. The patient is currently being treated online with doctors from Khabarovsk, and progress has already been made as he has begun to breathe on his own. The mother is trying to have her son transported to Khabarovsk, where there are MRI and EEG machines, and the local Ministry of Health promised to provide an air ambulance flight, but later refused, explaining that the young man might not be able to survive the journey.

At the same time, the patient’s condition worsens due to the onset of cerebral edema. His mother asks for advice from everyone who has encountered a similar illness and is looking for ways to contact doctors from St. Petersburg.
