Izvestia: there is a lot of tetracycline in Russian strawberries, but there is no one to fight it
A 20-fold excess of antibiotics was found in Russian strawberries, Izvestia reports, citing information released by the deputy head of Rosselkhoznadzor Anton Karmazin at a meeting in the State Duma. However, foreign manufacturers also sin. There is nothing good in the presence of such an additive, experts say. We can’t ban anything yet – there is no law, they say in the Rosselkhoznadzor and offer deputies to work on the relevant norm.
Karmazin said that tetracycline was found in strawberries, a medication that is used in the treatment of pneumonia, typhoid, meningitis, bronchitis, purulent pleurisy, bacterial and amoebic dysentery, gonorrhea, etc. Strawberries are processed with it, experts specify, to ensure its safety, which especially true for producers carrying berries for a long time and from afar.
The uncontrolled use of antimicrobial drugs, recalls the department, can lead to their accumulation in the body and cause allergies, as well as contribute to the development of bacterial resistance to the antibiotics used. And this creates problems in the fight against diseases. This is one of the most serious problems of mankind.
But the maximum allowable levels of antibiotics in crop products have not been established in the legislation of the Russian Federation, and so far it has been decided to monitor the residual content of antibiotics in order to somehow reflect the results in the legislation later.
However, in the domestic Berry Union they say that large farms do not allow themselves to pamper themselves with antibiotics, and they blame everything on small ones. The smaller ones, in turn, say that this is the first time they have heard of both the problem and tetracycline.
