Anniversary of the oldest search detachment celebrated in Novgorod

The oldest military-patriotic club in Russia, Sokol, whose first search expedition to the battlefields of the Great Patriotic War took place in April 1968, is 55 years old. Honoring the search engines took place in Novgorod. Sokol today is one of the most famous search associations in the country. On his account, thousands of raised remains of soldiers. The search engines helped establish the names of many servicemen who died in battle and find the relatives of some of them. In 1985, the first mass burial of the remains found by Sokol took place at the fraternal cemetery near the village of Mostki.

The first commander of the detachment was an employee of the Akron company, the legendary search engine Nikolai Orlov. The regional search expedition “Valley” bears his name. Thanks to him, an organized search movement in Russia began. The search engines were given the Karakat snow and swamp vehicle, as well as quadrocopters. “Everything that Sokol does seems simple at first glance, but it is complex, very important and, I will not be afraid of this word, a great thing. It seems to me that the search engines give the souls of the dead soldiers the missing particle of peace,” said Oleg Tikhonov, head of the enterprise, at the event on the occasion of the anniversary.

The history of the military-patriotic club “Sokol” began in the spring of 1968 with a campaign in the Valley of Death near Myasny Bor, where the 2nd Shock Army died in 1941-1942. The name “Falcon” was chosen in the first campaign in honor of the bird from the story of Maxim Gorky. The motto of the detachment was the words of Julius Fucik: “There are no nameless heroes.”
