Roszdravnadzor is checking on the fact of the death of a child in the treatment of “Zolgensma”

Roszdravnadzor informed, which conducts a comprehensive assessment of the circumstances of the causes of the death of a Russian child while taking the Zolgensma drug. Earlier about the death of two children informed the developer of the drug is the Swiss Novartis. Two children with spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) died – one from Russia, one from Kazakhstan.
The cause of death of children was acute liver failure. They died five to six weeks after Zolgensma was administered, and one to ten days after the corticosteroids (hormones given to reduce inflammation) were gradually tapered off.
“Zolgensma” is the most expensive drug in the world, one dose costs more than $ 2 million. At the same time, it is enough for the disease to stop progressing. In Russia, Zolgensma was registered in December 2021, in the official civil circulation introduced in July 2022.
