Rospotrebnadzor assessed the risk of infection with West Nile fever

In Russia, the risks of contracting West Nile fever cannot be ruled out. Mosquito vectors are found in many regions. This was stated by the representative of Rospotrebnadzor Natalya Pshenichnaya. She added that this year the disease has not yet been recorded on the territory of the Russian Federation.
The expert said that last year 76 cases of this disease were detected. In 2022, an outbreak is recorded in Europe. There are already 19 cases. But it’s still much less than usual.
Pshenichnaya believes that the West Nile virus has adapted not only to the temperature regimes of the southern regions of the country, but also to the temperate climate. Therefore, the Russians should not relax.
To minimize the risks, mosquitoes are regularly controlled in stagnant water bodies, basements are drained and disinfested, swamps are drained, mosquito nets and repellents are used.
