After 2.5 years of renovations, the Pinnipeds pavilion was opened at the Moscow Zoo

Most recently, at the end of July, the construction of the Pinnipeds pavilion was completed at the Moscow Zoo. On July 26, Sergei Sobyanin opened the renovated part of the zoo for walruses, seals, fur seals, seals and sea lions. In total, the new pools will be enough to support about 36 marine mammals.

A significant part of the reconstructed pavilion, with an area of ​​almost 6 thousand square meters. m., consists of five large pools with a depth of 3.5 to almost 8 meters with a unique salt water purification technology, as well as equipped with an artificial wave system.

Visitors can observe the leisure of animals not only on the surface, but also look under the water – for this purpose, underground “galleries” with large glass windows are specially equipped, allowing you to peep at the swimming of animals at arm’s length.

In addition, information stands with interesting facts about marine life have been installed in the Pinnipeds Hall. The animals themselves prefer a predominantly aquatic lifestyle, and it is a great success to see them on the surface – they go there to lie down or attract the attention of zoo visitors.

The reconstructed complex has all the necessary equipment for year-round keeping of animals, creating conditions that resemble the natural habitat of pinnipeds as much as possible.

Sergey Sobyanin himself hopes for a speedy increase in the number of individuals in the renovated pavilion. According to him, “this will give even more popularity to the zoo.” Recall that the number of visitors to the Moscow Zoo is about 3.5 million people a year.
