The media is full of reports about the increasing threat of tridemia – a situation in which the simultaneous incidence of two or three acute viral respiratory infections is likely. Infectious disease doctor, epidemiologist, deputy director for clinical and analytical work of the Federal Budgetary Institution Central Research Institute of Epidemiology of Rospotrebnadzor Natalya Pshenichnaya told on Thursday, October 19, how dangerous the tridemia is.
According to the expert, there is nothing unusual in the tridemic, since influenza, respiratory syncytial virus and COVID-19 are so-called “winter” viruses, which Russians most often encounter in the pre-winter period and in winter.
At the same time, Pshenichnaya warned that such infections can lead in some cases to the development of viral and then viral-bacterial pneumonia, as well as give complications to other organs and systems.
The doctor, in an interview with Rossiyskaya Gazeta, called for active use of preventive measures and timely vaccination.
It was previously reported that the incidence of coronavirus in Russia increased by 6.6% over the past week, and the number of hospitalizations increased by 4%. An increase in the number of hospitalizations was recorded in 43 regions of the country, the incidence increased in 51 regions.
The epidemic season for acute respiratory viral infections and influenza in Russia has already started; over the past week, the incidence rate decreased by 4.4%. In the structure of identified respiratory viruses, viruses of non-influenza etiology remain predominant – 99.7%. At the same time, 38.8 million Russians have already been vaccinated against influenza.
