Roskomnadzor warned about the distribution of fake letters on his behalf

Fake messages about the upcoming blocking of sites were sent to the email addresses of other departments and companies on behalf of the Roskomnadzor (RKN) department for the Central Federal District. About it says in a statement on the department’s website.

As explained in the RKN, fake letters could have arrived on January 17th. The messages contained information about the detection of banned materials on the resources of the addressees or notifications about the upcoming blocking. To find out the address of the site that violated the requirements of the law, the message suggested opening the attachment. In addition, there was no electronic seal in the messages.

The service assured that the specialists promptly identified and took measures to suppress the distribution and warn its addressees. If you receive a suspicious email “on behalf of Roskomnadzor”, it is recommended not to open it, as it may contain phishing links and viruses.

In February and April last year, the RKN already warned users about such cases. Then in the department reportedthat in the event of receiving such letters, when assessing the arguments of their senders, it is necessary to be guided by the indicated position of Roskomnadzor.
