Roscosmos posted a photograph of Cyclone Vanya, taken by the Meteor-M satellite, on its Telegram channel. The cyclone brought record snowfalls to Central Russia.
Cyclone “Vanya” appeared over Moldova and went to the Baltic Sea, joining there with the Atlantic cyclone. The day before, on December 15, it hit the Moscow region.
Due to snowfalls in Russia on December 15, 679 thousand people were left without light. This affected the Rostov, Pskov, Smolensk regions, DPR and LPR. There are traffic jams in Moscow reached nine points. According to the mayor’s office, more than 50% of the monthly precipitation fell.
By the beginning of the weekend in Moscow, the height of snowdrifts could reach 0.5 m, Roscosmos said in a statement. By the end of the week the temperature will rise to 0°C and high humidity is expected.
