Roscosmos and the Russian Academy of Sciences are exploring the possibility of exploring Mars after the termination of cooperation with the European Space Agency (ESA) as part of the ExoMars mission. The state corporation can use the “reserve created within the framework of the project.” The option of attracting foreign partners is being considered.
ExoMars is a joint program of ESA and Roscosmos for the exploration of Mars. The first spacecraft under the program was launched in 2016 by a Proton-M launch vehicle from the Baikonur Cosmodrome.
“Given that the entire world science has lost the ExoMars-2022 mission, and also that the Russian scientific instruments (ADRON-RM and ISEM) installed on the European rover of the ExoMars-2022 mission will be dismantled as part of the work on the mutual return of equipment, we can I only wish our colleagues from ESA to successfully launch the rover in October 2028 without our participation,” Roskosmos said. TASS.
ESA suspended cooperation with Roskosmos within the framework of the ExoMars project in the summer of 2022 against the backdrop of the Russian military operation in Ukraine. The Russian state corporation then announced that it intended to implement its part of the project at the national level or with the involvement of partners from friendly countries.
About the suspension of cooperation – in the material “Kommersant FM” “Roskosmos was excommunicated from ExoMars”.
