On Sunday night, a huge asteroid will pass between the orbits of the Earth and the Moon. According to NASA, it “is capable of destroying a city.”
Asteroid 2023 DZ2 has a diameter of 40 to 90 meters. It will fly at a distance of about 175 thousand km from the Earth.
Such large asteroids rarely come this close to the Earth, it happens about once every ten years. The approach will allow scientists to study the space object, including in the context of a possible collision of such asteroids with the Earth. However, the risk of asteroid impact 2023 DZ2 is now assessed as zero.
