The federal law, which allows the use of a parole mechanism for women convicted of minor crimes and who have a child under the age of four, was signed by Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Previously, parole was applied only after a convicted pregnant woman or a woman with a child under three years of age in the children’s home of a correctional institution had actually served at least one quarter of the assigned sentence. In this case, the crime committed by a woman should have been classified as “minor gravity”.
According to the new edition, parole can be applied to a convicted woman who has a child under the age of 4 years.
