President Vladimir Putin positively assessed the idea of making it easier for foreigners who share traditional values to move to Russia. He noted that Russia needs to do a lot in the field of labor migration, since the economy lacks 2.5 million people with 460 thousand unemployed.

“It’s a good idea to focus on traditional moral values when welcoming people who want to live with us. But how can we determine what real values a person adheres to?” — the president asked at the plenary session of the forum of the Agency for Strategic Initiatives to promote new projects “Strong Ideas for New Times.”

The President emphasized that many in Europe adhere to traditional values, and clarified that in order to determine what kind of people come, an individual approach is needed. “Our migration services have not yet reached this point, of course. This is obvious and there is work to be done here. There are different ideas here,” said Vladimir Putin.

Speaking about migrants, Vladimir Putin emphasized that the country needs highly qualified specialists, and it is necessary to start working with foreigners before they move to Russia. “Our migration services should be focused on ensuring that people with a high level of qualifications come to us,” the head of state emphasized. “We need to ensure that migrants comply with the laws and traditions of the Russian Federation and learn the language,” he added.

January 19 Russian government approved plan for the concept of migration policy from 2024 to 2025. The government intends to introduce digital profiles of migrants, improve procedures for obtaining asylum in Russia, and also develop an adaptation course for foreigners.
