A rally against anti-COVID restrictions took place in central Beijing on Sunday in connection with a record increase in COVID-19 infections that have swept China in recent days and forced the authorities to take action.

On the same day, a similar protest took place in Shanghai.
The agency reports that one of the reasons for the growth of protest moods in China was the fire in Urumqi, which occurred on November 24 in an apartment building.
The fire was caused by faulty electrical wiring in a bedroom on the 15th floor. As a result, the fire spread to the 17th floor, killing 10 people.
This tragedy has raised a question for the authorities: does China’s strict adherence to the zero-tolerance policy for COVID-19 mean that residents are not allowed to leave the building even in a fire, despite the risk of dying in a fire?
Many Chinese, according to RIA Novosti, believe that if it were not for the restrictions, the victims could have been avoided.
The authorities promised the public to conduct a thorough investigation.
