Pope calls for abolition of celibacy in the Catholic Church

The British newspaper Daily Mail reported that Pope Francis called celibacy for priests a temporary measure and thought about revising the rules, which are a thousand years old.
According to the pontiff, the rule introduced in the 11th century was a “temporary prescription”, and there is no contradiction in the priest’s marriage. As Francis noted, this injunction is not eternal, like ordination to the priesthood. On the other hand, he clarified that celibacy is a discipline.
Answering a question about whether the Vatican is going to revise the relevant practice, the pontiff specified that there are such plans, citing the example of the Orthodox Church. Francis noted that in the Eastern (Orthodox) Church everyone gets married, or those who want to. He added that before ordination there is a choice: to marry or remain celibate.
