Bachelor's, Master's, Specialist: how to study for university students?

The Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation proposed to reduce the period of study in the magistracy to one year. Now masters study for two years. According to the Minister of Education and Science Valeriy Falkov, the period of study in the magistracy, sufficient for obtaining in-depth professional knowledge, in the new education system may be one year.

At the same time, the minister noted that such an “innovation” may well be dictated by the demands of the labor market, since a bachelor can get the necessary narrow knowledge in a certain area in a year. By the way, graduates of the "specialty", in which students study at the university not for four, but for five years, will also be able to get a master's degree, and absolutely free of charge.

When such a reduction in educational programs may occur is not yet known. But the students themselves are not entirely positive about this idea. So, MAI student Daniil Malanin says that if he is going to enter the magistracy, he would like to gain in-depth knowledge, but this is unlikely to be done in a year.

“Now you can get a job even after a bachelor’s degree, if there is a desire,” says Daniil Malanin. - But, if you are going to get an in-depth higher education, then you need to take this issue seriously. It can't be done in a year.

REU student G.V. Plekhanova Anastasia Butaeva also believes that undergraduate and graduate programs are a completely invented system. And it must be abandoned. And to return to a single training, to study for five or six years, as before. And how it will be called - "specialty" or something else, does not matter at all.

The mother of the school graduate Tatiana Sonina also believes that it is also very reasonable to return to the specialty system.

“My daughter is going to enter the design department,” says Tatyana Sonina. - It is unrealistic to get the knowledge that she will need for work in four years. You need to study for five or six years, so I would be glad if our universities generally refused to divide higher education into stages.

MADI teacher Ekaterina Kaznetsova generally noted that the two-tier system of higher education is an artificial and far-fetched phenomenon. And, if possible, we must return to a single step. Unless, after that, teachers will have much more work to do, because all the scientific programs will have to be rewritten again.
