Perseverance rover finds organic matter ‘treasure’ on Mars

Exploring a section of an ancient river delta, the Perseverance rover collected some of the most important samples during its mission to determine if life ever existed on Mars, according to NASA scientists.
Some of the recently collected samples include organic matter, indicating that Jezero Crater, which likely once contained a lake and a delta that emptied into it, had a potentially habitable environment 3.5 billion years ago. edition.cnn.com/2022/09/15/world/perseverance-rover-mars-images-scn/index.html
“The rocks we examined in the delta have the highest concentration of organic matter that we have ever found on a mission,” said Ken Farley, a research fellow at the Perseverance Project at Caltech Pasadena.
The rover’s mission, which began on the Red Planet 18 months ago, includes searching for signs of ancient microbial life. Persistence collects rock samples that could retain these telltale biosignatures. The rover currently contains 12 rock samples.
