Flowers and champagne, Louis Armstrong, poetry, firecrackers – this is how the planning meeting took place at MK, which happens once every forty years. Exactly four decades ago, Pavel Gusev signed his first issue as editor-in-chief.

On this occasion, the planning meeting at the editor-in-chief of MK was held in an unusual format. At the table where the number is usually discussed, it was not the heads of departments, but close friends of Pavel Nikolaevich. This came as a complete surprise to him: when he entered the magazine, where in the mornings, before the journalists came up, it is quiet, the famous “Hello, Dolly” was heard performed by Louis Armstrong (the boss loves jazz), which, naturally, puzzled the strict editor . Well, when he saw a solid quorum at the table, he was taken aback, moved, embarrassed.

I must say that for all his significant status, Pavel Nikolayevich does not like window dressing, publicity, and then there is still a working day, the news is pouring one more disturbing than the other. But forty years at the helm of a newspaper that is loved and hated, praised and scolded, but which is always interesting to read, is an important event that cannot be passed by. So Vitaly Ignatenko, Mikhail Shvydkoy, Mikhail Seslavinsky, Evgeny Yamburg, Alexander Yakushev, Vyacheslav Fetisov, Mark Rozovsky, Alexander Khinshtein, Sergey Lisovsky, Rafael Timoshev, Arina Sharapova, who, by the way, had a birthday that day, did not pass.

All these very busy people with high positions, who came in the morning not to their work, but to MK, took turns reviewing the latest issue of our newspaper, not without criticism and playful suggestions, memories. The meeting went even faster than usual. Some guests read poetry: Yevgeny Yamburg (of his own composition) – from enlightenment, Mark Rozovsky (Pushkin) – from theatrical art. The planning meeting looked like a theater where everything was rehearsed: at the words “let’s raise our glasses, let’s move them together …” the door from the layout was flung open, and from there they took out champagne and took out a huge cake, made in the form of the very first issue of Moskovsky Komsomolets, which on May 31 1983 Pavel Gusev signed for the first time as the editor-in-chief of the newspaper.

The first strip of marzipan exactly repeated the strip of forty years ago, and deputy. editor-in-chief Olga Baksheeva (then she was a correspondent for the regional department) even found her note there about the prospects for the harvest. Soviet history turned out to be surprisingly sweet and tender.
