Secretary of the Russian Security Council Nikolai Patrushev said that ineffective forecasting and insufficiently prompt response led to the emergency situation with floods in the Orenburg and Kurgan regions. According to him, similar problems have been identified in the north-west of Russia.

“Insufficient attention to this work can lead to serious consequences, as happened in the Orenburg and Kurgan regions. On instructions from the President of Russia, all necessary measures are being taken to ensure the safety of the population and eliminate the consequences of this natural disaster. But such a critical development of the situation and enormous material damage could be minimized,” Mr. Patrushev said at a meeting in Arkhangelsk (quoted from RIA Novosti).
