Codes 80 (DPR), 81 (LPR), 84 (Kherson region) and 85 (Zaporozhye region) were assigned to license plates of cars in new regions of Russia. This is stated in the order of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation.

The document expanded the list of digital codes of Russian regions that are used on state registration plates of vehicles and other special products that are necessary for the admission of vehicles and their drivers to participate in road traffic.

In September, referendums were held on the issue of four new regions joining Russia. In the DPR, 99.23% of those who voted for joining the Russian Federation, in the LPR – 98.42%, in the Kherson region – 87.05%, in the Zaporozhye region – 93.11%. On September 30, Russian President Vladimir Putin and the heads of the DPR, LPR, Zaporozhye and Kherson regions signed agreements on the annexation of regions to Russia and the formation of new subjects within the Russian Federation.

In 2014, Crimea and Sevastopol, which became part of Russia, received codes 82 and 92, respectively.
