October 2023 was the warmest month on record, European climate change watchdog Copernicus reported. The average surface temperature last month was recorded at 15.3C, 0.4C above the previous record set in 2019.
According to the service message, which leads “RIA News”, relative to the average temperature in October in the period from 1991 to 2020, the indicator for the same period of the current year increased by 0.85°C. In October 2023, a record for the month was also recorded for the average temperature of the upper layers of the Atlantic Ocean, 20.79°C.
According to UN World Meteorological Organization (WMO) estimates, 2023 can be the warmest on record since 1940. Copernicus monitoring results (WMO uses European data for its reports) showed that the global average temperature for January-September was 0.52°C higher than the average temperature for the same month in 1991-2020.
