Nvidia launches A800 GPU for China

American video processor and chip manufacturer Nvidia on November 7 announced the launch of the A800 GPU, designed specifically for China. Thus, Nvidia wants to produce chips for China without violating the US government’s ban on Chinese manufacturers access to advanced chips suitable for, among other things, artificial intelligence systems.
According to Nvidia, the A800 is an alternative to the A100 in other markets, and does not violate the requirements of US authorities. The company said production of the A800 began in the third quarter.
In early October, the US government tightened restrictions by barring US companies from selling US-based semiconductors to Chinese companies without obtaining export licenses. After that, Nvidia said that it could not sell the A100 GPU and the next-generation H100 model, which will begin shipping soon, in China without approval from US authorities.
