November 18 in the folk calendar is Jonah’s Day. In Rus’, it was believed that winter weather was finally set on this day, and if there was already a lot of snow, then the whole winter would be snowy.

On the Day of Jonah, they often cleaned the house. They believed that along with dirt and debris, you can get rid of the negativity accumulated in your home. And in order to maintain health all next year, they certainly went to the bathhouse on this day.

Radish was often served at the table, more often black. Just finished harvesting her harvest. Radish was used not only for salads and tinctures, but also as a cure for colds. By the way, black radish with honey is still popular as a folk remedy for ARVI and cough.

On this day, the girls guessed at the suitors and scattered coins around the house – according to signs, this was supposed to attract guys to them.

If a broom was found under the porch, it was believed that someone from the household had been damaged. To get rid of it, they took a broom, having previously put on gloves or mittens, and burned it, and buried the ashes under a dried tree.

Also, according to popular belief, today is a bad day for any important business – from transactions to large purchases. It is not recommended to sign any papers – you can lose your luck. And the one who picks up the coin found on the street is threatened with loneliness.

Folk signs on November 18 are as follows:

– if the clouds hang low – the weather will deteriorate;

– if heavy snowfall – winter will be cold and snowy;

– if lightning strikes, a storm will begin soon;

– if the day is clear, and the wind blows from the north – to frost.
