The Verkh-Isetsky District Court of Yekaterinburg overturned the verdict on Alexander Vasiliev, a former security guard at the Yeltsin Center, who was convicted of defacing the painting Three Figures by Kazimir Malevich’s student Anna Leporskaya.
It is noted that the court acquitted the man, as he did not find corpus delicti in his actions.
The incident involving the security guard occurred at the end of 2021. Vasiliev, using a ballpoint pen, added “eyes” to Leporskaya’s painting. The damage was estimated at 250 thousand rubles, it was covered by insurance. The painting itself has been successfully restored.
At the end of August, the court sentenced Vasilyev to 180 hours of compulsory work and a course of psychiatric therapy.
