Magadan Mayor Yuri Grishan canceled New Year’s festivities due to the shelling of Belgorod. The mayor announced this in his Telegram channel.
Grishan noted that holiday fireworks will also be cancelled, and expressed condolences to the families and friends of the victims. According to him, after such a tragedy it is inappropriate to hold New Year’s festivities.
The mayor of the city also asked for support from those who planned to launch fireworks themselves.
Earlier it was reported that the Ukrainian Armed Forces attacked the center of Belgorod. The strike was reportedly carried out using Alder missiles with a prohibited cassette part and shells from the Czech Vampire MLRS. Most of them were intercepted on approach to Belgorod, but some of the ammunition hit densely populated areas. As a result, 21 people died, including 3 children, 110 people were injured, including 17 children, 30 people were injured and in serious condition.
According to the latest data, at least 30 apartment buildings were damaged, including 344 apartments. Three private houses, a school, a lyceum and a kindergarten and other public facilities were also damaged.
