1. Hold the snow in the beds. This winter in the European part of the country was not characterized by an abundance of snow, so it must be preserved and used as much as possible for the benefit of your garden. Free the row-spacing from the snow and throw it on the ridges. Between the beds, the earth will thaw earlier and will absorb moisture, preventing it from draining.

2. Drain the melt water. If the site is on a slope, make transverse grooves, rollers of snow, so that the flow of melt water does not flow down and wash away the fertile layer of the earth, forming gullies. In the lower part of the area where water can stagnate, be sure to clean the ditches to drain it. Remember that prolonged stagnant water is detrimental to many plants.

3. Adjust the amount of snow under the trees. Do not throw snow on the near-trunk circle of an apple or pear tree. Do not delay the melting of snow under the trees in special ways (for example, sprinkling with sawdust), this can lead to unpleasant consequences for the plants. With warming, the crown of the tree will wake up, it will need water and nutrition, but the roots remaining in the frozen ground will not be able to work. As a result, the tree can dry out from a lack of moisture and nutrients. Leave the snow in its natural state, and if it has fallen a lot in your area, then by the end of the month it is better to shovel it away from the tree so that the frozen soil warms up.

4. Inspect fruit trees. Check the trunks for rodent damage. Young trees at snow level are often eaten by hares, and buried seedlings can suffer from mice and other small rodents that eat bark down to wood. 5. Heal minor damage to the bark. Minor, superficial damage done by rodents usually heals on its own if the tree’s bark is generally healthy. Such wounds may not be treated specifically. If the damage is more significant, the bark is gnawed to wood, then open wounds must be protected from drying out.

Now there are remedies that prevent infection and help restore the bark. Later, during the period of sap flow, it will be possible to determine whether the cambium is damaged, whether the bark is overgrown.

6. Prepare material for future vaccination. Serious circular damage to the bark can lead to the death of the tree, the exchange of water with nutrients between the roots and crown is disrupted. You can save the tree by grafting with a bridge, but this operation is carried out later.
