Prolonged hot weather this week will lead to the melting of glaciers in the mountains of the North Caucasus Federal District. This will trigger mudflows. This was warned by the Research Institute for Civil Defense and Emergencies.
“In the mountainous regions of the North Caucasus Federal District, prolonged high air temperatures can lead to the melting of glaciers, which increases the likelihood of mudflows,” the institute said in a statement (quoted by RIA Novosti).
In addition, experts warn of the risks of flooding low-lying areas in the Crimea, Krasnodar Territory and Rostov Region.
On August 12, in the area of ”Judge’s nights” at an altitude of 3500 m in the Cherek region of Kabardino-Balkaria, rock collapsed from Mount Dykh-Tau. At this time, tourists from St. Petersburg spent the night there. One man died.
