According to information published by A Haber, citing the city’s Water Resources and Sewerage Authority (İSKİ), the occupancy rate of reservoirs in Istanbul has decreased to 33.4% of the norm, which is the lowest level in the past nine years. In May, this figure was 48.58%.
Due to the ongoing heat wave, the water levels at ten dams are dropping daily, with the lowest level (4.47%) recorded at the Pabuchdere Dam, located on the European side of Istanbul.
The total volume of water in urban reservoirs as of August 16 is 289.84 million cubic meters. At the same time, last year on this date, this figure was 538.57 million cubic meters. The most critical situation was in August 2014, when water reserves amounted to 154.05 million cubic meters.
If there is no rain and hot weather persists, there will be enough water supplies for 61 days. Istanbul authorities urge citizens to save water.
