As Elena Rusakova, a municipal deputy and head of the Gagarinsky district of Moscow, said on her Facebook page (owned by the recognized extremist and banned Meta), the court removed her from the upcoming municipal elections due to her disputed involvement in Navalny’s headquarters (recognized as extremist organizations and banned). For a similar reason, Denis Shenderovich, the current municipal deputy of the Kuntsevo district, was also removed from the elections.
“Based on the fact that I allegedly flashed in some photo of last year’s rally (which has not been proven), I was elevated to the rank of a “member of Navalny’s headquarters,” which means deprivation of the right to be elected,” Ms. Rusakova said. In the summer of 2021, she was fined for a rally in support of Alexei Navalny, which took place on January 23 of the same year. Then she also disputed her presence at the event.
The OVD-Info project (recognized as an NGO-foreign agent) explains that Mr. Shenderovich was removed from the elections due to administrative liability for participating in the above-mentioned action, which the court also considers as evidence of the politician’s involvement in Navalny’s headquarters.
The association with the structures of Alexei Navalny, recognized as extremist and banned in the summer of 2021, is one of the most common reasons for the removal of candidates in the upcoming municipal elections in Moscow.
