April 2 and 3 at the Boyar Chambers (20.00) Theater “Workshops” presents the play “The Tale of the Seven Hanged” based on the story of Leonid Andreev, staged by Polina Sinilnikova. Production designer – Anastasia Baranovskaya. Both graduated from the Vladimir Pankov Workshop at GITIS.
This is a performance for which the theater raised funds with the help of crowdfunding on the platform and won the STD RF competition, the main prize of which is the provision of a venue for rehearsals and showing the performance in the Boyar Chambers.
“The Story of the Seven Hanged” Leonid Andreev wrote in 1908. This is a story about the last days of the lives of seven criminals. Their mental monologues (the heroes one by one comprehend the approach of imminent death) the writer considered an expression of personal protest against the death penalty. He waived the copyright so that the work could be read all over the world. The story has been translated into many languages.
Director Polina Sinilnikova: Our performance is a story about the fact that death is not so terrible as life without love, about how love gives meaning to everything that exists and makes a person immortal, infinite. … That the death penalty is becoming a vicious circle of killing people by people and that the only way out of this circle is mercy and non-violence in any form and under any circumstances.” Before the performance, the audience can watch a thematic exhibition.
