At Tomsk University reportedthat scientists are now working on the creation of nutritional supplements based on crickets, marbled cockroaches and earthworms.
As Anastasia Simakova, head of the Department of Invertebrate Zoology at the TSU Biological Institute, explained, the goal of the project is to develop biologically active food supplements from invertebrate biomass. According to her, they contain rich and environmentally friendly protein, as well as vitamins and trace elements.
At the same time, she stressed that we are not talking about replacing the beef, pork, and chicken used by the population as food. The essence of the project is precisely in the creation of dietary supplements to replenish the vital elements that a modern person does not receive in the right amount due to traditional nutrition.
In the future, it will be possible to grow worms and cockroaches for the production of dietary supplements on mini-farms. At the same time, such farms are more profitable than traditional agriculture.
