The conscription of St. Petersburg residents for military service as part of the partial mobilization announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin may end as early as October 30, said Alexander Belsky, speaker of the St. Petersburg Legislative Assembly.
“According to my information, the mobilization will be completed by Sunday,” Mr. Belsky said on the radio “Komsomolskaya Pravda in St. Petersburg”without specifying the source of the information. He also did not give exact figures of already mobilized and planned conscription in the city.
Earlier, Svetlana Agapitova, Commissioner for Human Rights in the region, said that mobilization in St. Petersburg could end on October 10, but this did not happen. Later, Andrey Kartapolov, deputy and chairman of the State Duma Committee on Defense, denied rumors about the imminent completion of mobilization in St. Petersburg. On October 14, President Vladimir Putin announced that partial mobilization throughout the Russian Federation would end in two weeks, by October 28. A decree or statement by Mr. Putin on the completion of mobilization is not yet planned.
