Mishustin urged to weigh the pros and cons when discussing the abolition of the exam

The leader of the Just Russia – For Truth (SRZP) party, Sergei Mironov, put forward an initiative to abolish the Unified State Examination (USE) for meeting with Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin with deputies of the SRZP faction. He replied that all aspects should be “seriously weighed” on this issue.

“We hope that in the near future we will see a return to common sense and the elimination of the unified state exam,” Mr. Mironov said at the meeting. “As for the abolition of the Unified State Examination or some other things, everything must be seriously weighed. There are pluses and minuses to look at.” answered Mr Mishustin.

The SRZP previously named three serious disadvantages of the USE today: isolation from the school curriculum and “coaching” children to pass the USE, which does not give them the opportunity to gain fundamental knowledge. “The third and most important disadvantage is that it is almost impossible to prepare for the exam without tutors,”— declared previously the leader of the SRZP, noting that the process of passing the exam is actually turning into a paid education, which strengthens the “stratification in society into the poor and the rich” (quote from the party’s website).

The USE serves as both a final exam from school and an entrance exam to universities. The first experiment on the introduction of the Unified State Examination was carried out in 2001.
