Mishustin announced the certification of the Baikal aircraft in December

The Baikal small aircraft may receive a certificate in December 2023. Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin stated this during the plenary session at the Innoprom exhibition.

“In December, the Baikal aircraft, which is replacing the obsolete An-2, should receive a certificate. After that, it will be possible to start its trial operation, – noted Mishustin (quote from RIA Novosti).

According to Mishustin, in the future the aircraft will be equipped with a Russian engine, such work is already underway.

In June, Belarusian Ambassador to Russia Dmitry Krutoy told the agency in an interview that the Minister of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation Denis Manturov proposed to organize the assembly of Baikal aircraft, as well as Ladoga, in Belarus. It was planned to discuss this issue during the visit of the Belarusian delegation to the Innoprom exhibition.

LMS-901 “Baikal” was developed by order of the Ministry of Industry and Trade in 2019-2021. 100% subsidiary of UZGA by Baikal Engineering. State investments in the project amounted to 1.25 billion rubles. The Baikal prototype made its first flight in Yekaterinburg at the end of January 2022. The aircraft is designed for 9-12 seats. It is assumed that Baikal will replace the fleet of obsolete An-2 corncobs in Russia. In September 2022 reportedthat its production will start in 2024.
