Rector of the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (MIPT) Dmitry Livanov announced the cancellation of the meeting of university students with the editor-in-chief of Novaya Gazeta, Nobel laureate Dmitry Muratov. The reason for this was “external pressure” on MIPT in connection with the announcement of the event, which was scheduled for March 28.
“Despite the great interest of the physicists in communicating with Dmitry Andreevich, only the announcement of the upcoming event caused a flurry of negative emotions, and primarily from people external to the physicist,” the statement says. statement Mr. Livanov, published on the official website of the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology.
The rector of the university stressed that Mr. Muratov was not recognized by the Ministry of Justice as a foreign agent, so there are no legal obstacles to organizing an event with his participation at the institute. According to Dmitry Livanov, the meeting with the editor-in-chief of Novaya Gazeta will take place, but the timing of it is still unknown.
Muratov himself confirmed the information about the cancellation of the meeting with MIPT students, as the reason he called “disgusting criticism” from nationalists against the university. “The level of attacks is understandable – one of the extreme nationalists even outlined the thesis of my “anti-patriotic” speech, which I have not even written yet,” Mr. Muratov explained (quoted from Telegram channel Novaya Gazeta).
