Ministry of Emergency Situations: the number of people who went on hikes in the summer has almost tripled since 2020

In the summer of 2022, the number of Russians who went on hiking trips has almost tripled since 2020. RBC in the press service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations. Almost 152,000 people went hiking, which was a record since the start of the pandemic. The increase in tourist traffic occurred against the backdrop of the inaccessibility of a significant part of foreign holiday destinations, restrictions imposed due to the coronavirus, as well as the emergence of the so-called glamorous camping.
According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations:
- in the summer of 2020, more than 6 thousand groups of tourists numbering more than 54.5 thousand people registered on tourist routes;
- in the summer of 2021, 2.2 times more people went hiking compared to the previous year – more than 11 thousand tourist groups numbering 123.5 thousand people;
- in the summer of 2022, already 12,000 groups with a total number of almost 152,000 people took to the tourist routes, which is 23% more than in the summer of 2021.
“Glamorous camping” (“glamping”) combines the convenience of a hotel room with the possibility of outdoor recreation.
In 2017, the government obliged tourists and tour organizers to inform the regional Ministry of Emergency Situations about entering the route through difficult terrain at least ten days before the start of the trip. So the Ministry of Emergency Situations receives statistics about tourists.
