Hostel. Part II. Student chronicles and experienced advice

In the first part stories about the hostel touched on the topic of setting an example for new students. And this topic is not easy. As the saying goes: “treat others as you would like others to treat you” and “who if not me?”.

How to do so, so as not to seem arrogant? Many guys come to the hostel with complete incomprehension on their faces. And how to live here? How to communicate? What kind of people are here anyway? And very often there is a situation when already experienced residents of a student commune treat newcomers extremely condescendingly and with notes of contempt: “Look, I’m in charge here, so live by my rules.” There is some truth in this, and if a newcomer was placed in a room with the “old men”, then he really will have to adjust to them. But this is only partly, because we are all people and we are all in a hostel in the same conditions.

The task of knowledgeable and experienced students is to help and guide, and not to keep newcomers in fear and tension.

It is necessary to share experience, talk a lot, show – that is, to establish communication. For students who are likely to live without parents for the first time, moral support and help is very important. If everything is done correctly, then in the end we will get excellent companions who will be open to communication and, if necessary, compromises. I really want to see an atmosphere of friendship and respect for each other always reign in the hostels.

Experienced Tips

Imagine that you are lying in bed, going to sleep and you are almost seeing at least the first dream, but suddenly from the socket near your ear you hear the obsessive “Why do I need the sun of Monaco ?! For what, tell me, is the moon of St. Tropez? Or they staged a bowling competition from above. Or from below. And there was a knock on the door to ask for oil. Or all at once. Represented? Persistent dormitory residents do not need to introduce themselves.

Noise is one of the main representatives of the nightmares of community students, especially those who have to work or have a credit for a strict teacher early in the morning. What to do? How to sleep? I would like to answer “no way”, because this is really not an easy task, but there are still a couple of ways. Below is a brief digression for those who find themselves in such a situation and for those who are just interested.

Sleep with headphones

I would suggest some kind of podcast or lecture on history, because if you listen to dub-step or an interesting series, then you will stop paying attention to the noise, but you will not fall asleep either.

Negotiation

Throw a note under the door asking them not to make noise and discuss possible cooperation. How we did: we wrote a note to noisy neighbors about our dissatisfaction and the next day we met for a cup of tea to discuss all the problems. For example, it is possible to inform via SMS when no one is at home and this will be a kind of consent to the noise. After all, how will he interfere with us if we are not? This could have ended, but this text would not exist if everyone knew how to negotiate.

The option is not for everyone, because many are uncomfortable sleeping in them, but the attempt is not torture.

Knock on the wall or door of intruders

This usually helps and the noise subsides. But this is not the most reliable way. If the neighbors are especially persistent, then in a couple of days you can beat off your hand. So let’s move on to the next point.

Commandant / security.

What could be better than bringing in strict law enforcement officers? Most likely, your relations with your neighbors will become more tense, and in a hostel, interroom communication is extremely important, but the method is definitely working. Checked more than once.

A lot of things happen in hostels and almost all of them are the same. After all, young hot blood cannot be stopped, but still be people – do not make noise at unauthorized times, because everything starts with us.
