Helicopter with rescuers due to bad weather could not reach the place of death of tourists in Kamchatka

A helicopter with rescuers today, September 4, could not reach the emergency site on the Klyuchevskaya Sopka volcano in Kamchatka, where died six people, due to bad weather. This was announced by a representative of the regional state institution “Center for Civil Defense, Emergencies and Fire Safety in the Kamchatka Territory” (KGKU “TSOD”), his words are quoted by Interfax. The helicopter with rescuers again flew to the area of ​​the incident, the day before the ship with rescuers and doctors failed to land due to bad weather.

“Rescuers of KGKU TsOD arrived in the Ust-Kamchatsky region to conduct a search and rescue operation. It was planned that they would land at an altitude of 3.3 thousand meters, but due to the storm wind, the gusts of which reached about 30 m / s, this was not possible, although two attempts were made with a difference of several hours, ”said reporters institution representative.

Now the rescuers are supposed to be delivered to an acceptable height on September 5, from which they will begin their ascent.

The ground group is advancing to a height of 1.2 thousand meters, where it is planned to set up a base camp to assist rescuers. The search and rescue operation is complicated by heavy clouds, storm winds and precipitation at altitudes, the air at night in the mountains cools down to -14 degrees.

By data investigation, on August 30, a group of tourists from seven regions of the Russian Federation began climbing the volcano. The group consisted of 10 people and two guides. According to preliminary information, on September 3, at an altitude of about 4150 m, at least five people died in a fall from a height, and one of the guides received a leg fracture.

Today became knownthat the victim died while climbing the volcano.

Klyuchevskaya Sopka is one of the most complex volcanoes in Kamchatka.
