Microsoft blocks deal to buy Activision Blizzard in UK
The UK Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has finally blocked Microsoft’s multi-billion dollar deal to buy video game maker Activision Blizzard. The Wall Street Journal writes about it.
According to the British regulator, such a merger could “strangle” competition in the cloud gaming market, as a result of which it was decided to ban the deal.
Microsoft lawyers, in turn, said they were upset by the CMA decision and intend to file an appeal in the near future. They also added that the British regulator is guided by a “mistaken” understanding of the market.
It is known that the cost of the agreement between the companies was estimated at $69 billion. The deal was supposed to be the largest in the history of the technology industry.
