The Federation Council approved the law on awarding the status of veteran and invalid of combat operations to those participating in the military formations of the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics from May 12, 2014. Also, this status will be granted to participants in the military operation in Ukraine who have signed a contract with “organizations that assist the armed forces of the Russian Federation.”
The law also applies to those who have signed contracts with private military companies (PMCs), Yaroslav Nilov, head of the relevant State Duma committee on labor, social policy and veterans’ affairs, explained earlier.
State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin pointed out that the amendments give equal status and appropriate support to all participants in the Russian military operation in Ukraine, “because they equally risk their lives defending the country.”
Veterans of military operations are entitled to monthly payments in the amount of 3481.85 rubles, disabled people – 6328.41 rubles. and higher pensions. They are exempted from paying property tax on one taxable object, and land tax and personal income tax are reduced for them. Also, all combat veterans are entitled to a lump sum payment for the construction or purchase of housing. They are entitled to compensation for the cost of renting and maintaining housing and contributions for major repairs in the amount of 50% and other benefits.
